Tour overview

An hour from Marrakech, the Ourika Valley climbs into the High Atlas along a rushing river, its slopes terraced with walnut and cherry trees and dotted with red-earth Berber villages.

This is the easiest and loveliest taste of mountain Morocco — cool air, a visit to a Berber family home for mint tea, a walk up to the Setti Fatma waterfalls, and lunch at a table set beside the river. Perfect for families and anyone wanting green after the medina.

Your day, stop by stop

We collect you around 9am — a relaxed start — and drive south out of the city towards the mountains, which fill the windscreen within half an hour.

Stop in a traditional village where a family will welcome you in for mint tea and fresh bread, and show you how they live and farm on the terraces. Warm, genuine and never staged.

A short visit to a local cooperative to see argan oil and mountain herbs prepared by hand — taste the amlou and browse if you like.

Arrive at Setti Fatma at the head of the valley. A guided scramble up the rocks brings you to the first of the seven waterfalls — sturdy shoes help, and your guide will match the pace to you.

Lunch at a riverside restaurant with tables literally in the shallows — tagine, salads and the sound of the water. A local institution.

Depart around 4:30pm for the easy hour back down the valley, arriving at your riad by around 6pm.
