From the medieval heart of Fes you climb over the Middle Atlas cedar forests, drop down the palm-lined Ziz Valley to the great dunes of Erg Chebbi, then follow the kasbah trail west through Todra, Dades and Aït Ben Haddou before descending into Marrakech.

Complete itinerary
Leave Fes and climb into the Middle Atlas, through alpine Ifrane and the cedar forests of Azrou, where Barbary macaques gather. Down the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, then camels into the dunes for sunset, dinner and drumming. Overnight: Desert camp.
Sunrise over Erg Chebbi, then west through Rissani to the soaring cliffs of Todra Gorge and up the famous Dades hairpins. Overnight: Dades.
The Valley of Roses and Skoura oasis, then Ouarzazate and the great kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou. Over the Tizi n’Tichka pass and down into Marrakech by evening. Overnight: Marrakech.
